MLP CCG Card Creator Template v0.9.4 (Aug 9 2015) by Abion47 MLP CCG Card Creator Template v0.9.4 (Aug 9 2015) by Abion47
Update: An extended art card style has been made. Get the link below in the "Template Add-Ons section".

Here it is! After weeks of work and months of planning, the template is finally seeing its initial release!

This is the card creation template for Magic Set Editor that adds the ability to create cards for the My Little Pony card game. Not only can you create your very own custom cards, you can even go further and create entire sets. Got an idea for a Batpony-themed card set? How about a brilliant new mechanic surrounding the mysteries of the Everfree? With this template, you no longer need to have master-level Photoshop cut-and-paste skills to create your own cards!

For people who are new to Magic Set Editor, I've written up a How-To document that will walk you through everything you need to know in order to get started making the next Canterlot Nights. Links to that are below in the links section.

As powerful as Magic Set Editor is, I do realize that it does have some limitations. With that in mind, I am also going to release the vector resources that I made for this template. That way, if you want to go crazy with the card design going above and beyond what Magic Set Editor is possibly able to do, you don't need to bend over backwards to get your cards to look exactly how you want them to look.

This is an initial release that I have been unable to get a satisfactory amount of feedback on, so there may be some bugs or issues that slipped past me. If you find any of these issues, please let me know about them so I can fix them. Additionally, if you have an idea that would benefit the template, let me know of that as well!

Keep in mind that this card creator is for making custom cards for enjoyment purposes. This is not for printing proxies or for creating hacks-y copies of official cards. Don't try taking any cards made with these resources into official MLP CCG tournaments or functions. It will not end well for you.

*UPDATE* I got some reports that the installer is giving out some issues when running, saying that it doesn't have access to create certain directories. I'm not sure what's causing this, but it does seem like if you keep clicking "Yes" when it asks if you want it to try again, it does eventually work. I'm going to ask some people on the MSE forum about this issue, but in the meantime I'm going to include a link to download the template files in zip format. You can install them manually by going to the folder where you installed Magic Set Editor and extracting the files into the "data" folder.

Will we ever get a proper Token template?
Also, is this sized to be accurate for proxy print out cards? (Looking to make Tokens, mostly.)

Hopefully this will help.

I'm trying to create the keyword Showy, but I'm running into problems.

Keyword: Showy X
Mode: expert
Matches: Showy <number>
Reminder text: Opponents pay +[{param1}] to move characters to this card's Problem.

So on the card I expect the number to be in the form of the AT circle +(number), but instead I get square brackets +[number].

Any idea if this nesting is allowed, or is it impossible?

The steps for custom watermark don't work. It either brings up the name, or nothing.

Sorry for the late reply, i fixed the issue by editing the "style" file and change the card DPI from 72 to 150 now they are the perfect size to fit into the sleeves with out any outside modification, just print from the program.

I'm not sure. I would like to, but I don't have any physical cards to base the design on, and my online source was cut off. Then there's the annoying problem of finding the time to do it. ;P

I am sure you could use  Ponyhead to get screen shots of all the cards.  They have I believe all if not most of them all.  A new template is coming out in Aug for Mult Color Cards

Ponyhead is actually what I used to use, as they had a feed which I could use to download cards en masse. They have since closed that feed, so the only way I can get the card images now is to go to the card pages and download them individually, which would be ridiculously time-consuming to do to the 2-3+ sets that have come out since that feed was closed.

Love it, and I'm making nice use of it, so thank you!

One question, though. I'm looking though the files and can't find where to add races / images for races. Where is that? I'd like to add griffons and the image for zebras.

Adding races to the template is a bit of a process.

First, go to the icons folder of the premiere style folder ("my-little-pony-premiere.mse-style"). Within that folder, go to the folder "icons". Put your race symbol here. The dimensions of the image should be 73 x 56.

Second, back-up to the style folder and open the file called "style" (use your preferred text editor). Scroll down until you see the field "race_icon" (it should be a little more than halfway down). In that field, there is a sub field called "choice images". Inside that field is a list of all the races currently in the template as well as paths to their corresponding images. At the end of this list, add your race, followed by a semicolon, a space, and the relative path to your image. (For example, if you add griffons and your image is named "race-griffon.png", the line would look like "griffon: icons/race-griffon.png".)

Third, go to the core game folder ("my-little-pony.mse-game") and open the "card-fields" file. Scroll down until you see a card field with the name "race-icon" (about three-quarters of the way down). Under that, there should be a list of choice lines. Add a new line after the last choice and add "choice: " followed by the name you put in the style file spelled exactly the same. (I.E. "choice: griffon")

I believe that is the whole process. Message back if something borks up. Note that I don't know what effect adding custom races will do to the exporter for OCTGN or Lackey, since those formats probably have specific terms to refer to particular existing races and might not have a way to process completely new ones.

It should only install what you don't have or what needs updating, but either way the process is the same.

I just used it:
shieldgenerator7.deviantart.co…

And I have to say: it works great! It was so easy to use that it actually took less time to edit the card than it took to get the screenshot (which should have been way easier)

I am having a few issues with it, however, and I hope you would know how to resolve them.
(1) The text font (especially for the ability and flavor text) is too big and I don't know how to make it smaller
(2) I can't edit the image I selected afterwards without completely reselecting it in the file dialog
(3) I can't edit the card number. I want to make the card number something like "#SG7-001" but it doesn't seem to want to let me do that

I think those are the main issues I had with it. Other than that, this is awesome! Thanks so much for making this!

(1) That is because you don't have the required fonts installed. I packed said fonts with the installer, but they (unfortunately) still need to be installed manually. You can find them if you go to where you installed MSE, then go to data > my-little-pony.mse-game > fonts.

(2) That's a thing with MSE itself that I've had my own grievances with in the past. Nothing I can do there, sorry. :(

(3) At the moment, card numbers are automatically generated without allowing input from the user. I'll look into maybe giving the option to allow manual input, but the automatic generation code took me forever to get working properly, so I'm a bit scared of what adding a manual option would do to the whole thing.

(1) Oh! You meant to install them onto my computer, not into MSE. I came back to tell you that was what it was, but upon rereading I see that that's probably what you meant in the first place. Haha! I thought you meant install the fonts into the MSE fonts directory. Ok, I get it now. Install the fonts onto my PC. Gotcha. So I did that and now the font size is ok.

So after a while of toying around in the files, it seems that nothing changed. It seems to me that none of the things I messed around with actually changed anything in MSE. Strange, but not exactly a major problem.

(3) I've gotten used to the automatic numbering, and it works pretty well. However, I noticed that the ultra rares in the actual CCG all get placed at the end of the numbered list rather than in line like the rest of them. Other than that, I think you have the numbering all correct except I think the problems are numbered before the TMs (tho not quite sure).

However, after using it a little more extensively, I have ran into some more problems:
(4) The "Boosted" side of a mane character is counted as a separate card and often appears (wrongly) by itself in randomly generated booster packs. Is there a way to attach it to its fixed "Start" side?
(5) I couldn't figure out how to show the symbol to say "+1 power in a certain color", like it does on the card "Royal Guidance" for example. mlpccg.wikia.com/wiki/Royal_Gu… . It has a +1 in a color icon. The closest I could find was a color indicator followed by an AT marker.

(3) I just kind of guessed at the numbering, so I 'm sure there's a bunch I got wrong. I'm preparing a hotfix version for these kinds of things, so anything I know that needs fixing is great to know.

(4) That's... odd. I thought I set it to only use Start side cards. I'm not sure what could be causing it, but I'll look into it for the hotfix.

(5) The way to do powers of a certain color is [#C] (where # is a single digit number and C is the code for the color). At the bottom of my How-To doc is a list of all the different codes you can use.

(3) Yep. Also, I personally find it a little bothersome that it puts Friends with the same name (but different subtitle) right next to each other. It's not a big issue, but it seems to me that they shouldn't be numbered right next to each other. Perhaps there's a way to allow drap and drop numbering? Or something that allows manual reordering without screwing up the rest of the auto-numbering?

(5) Oh ok cool I'll try that. Oh. That works. Cool! I was expecting something in the menus to do it, but that works too.

Another thing:
(6) The dot used to separate tags on cards is too big compared to the actual dot. The one you use is about the same size as a letter, but the one on the actual cards is about the size of an asterik and about the same place as an asterik too (hay, it might even be an asterik?).

(1) So I made another card, and the font size is better on this one. shieldgenerator7.deviantart.co… . It's too bad MSE doesn't auto-install the fonts but at least there is an alternative for it.

(3) I thought it looked like cards were ordered by rarity (promos and URs at the end), then type, then color, and finally alphabetically. However, looking back at the card list for Premeire, that doesn't seem to be the case. In fact, after sorting by color, the cards don't seem to have any obvious order at all. Almost... completely random. Maybe it's something thematic that Enterplay used when sorting them, but it doesn't look like anything I can automate, so for now I'm going to keep the default automatic numbering working the way it is. I am looking into how to allow manual numbering, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to mix manual and automatic - it will probably be one or the other.

(5) There should be something in the menus. Maybe I forgot that part. But yeah, the menu part is just meant for completion's sake anyway, as the keyword input is the fastest and most convenient.

(6) That sounds familiar. I think that might have been something I had planned to look into but completely forgot about.

(3) Yeah I looked at that too. It seems they sort it alphabetically, but only to an extent. It's definitely not sorted by rarity, so yeah IDK what they're sorting by.

(5) Keywords are definitely more convenient. But I often use the menus to figure out what the keywords are and I didn't find it in the menus

(6) It was among the various things I was telling you about when you were vectoring things. So far, it's the only thing to have been forgotten that I've noticed so that's not too bad.

(7) Man this is ridiculously easy. This card template thing is amazing, I've already made about 50 out of the 100 card deck I wanted to make. Now I just got to make the pictures for the cards, and playtest my deck. Would you happen to know any website/group/community where I could get playtesters?
